How to make your bedroom space tranquil and calming to get a better night’s rest and improve your mood for the next day.
The bedroom is often considered many people’s centre of calm. However, if you’re a sufferer of stress or insomnia, sometimes going to bed can seem like an ordeal. To soothe your mind and place your mind at rest, st we thought we’d compile a few tips to make your bedroom a tranquil space to be, stress-freeee. Creating a calm environment for you to sleep is easier than it may seem. There’s no need to spend lots of money, and you may not know me, but your bedroom may only need a few adjustments.
Muted Colours
Muted, neutral colours such as teal, grey, cream and charcoal provide a great calming colour palette to start with. Ensuring your walls are clean and simplified will also help declutter your mind. Using too much colour can make your room feel smaller than it is and cause headaches. Ensuring you choose colours that allow for a calm and restful space will reduce your anxiety levels and clear your mind of worries. This simple but effective technique is a great starting point to transform your space.
Lighting
An area often left unnoticed or as an afterthought is lighting. The lighting in your bedroom is crucial. Being able to dim lights and isolate areas with light will help your body physically get ready for sleep. A few hours before bedtime yo u should be turning lights off and making your space darker so that your eyes are preparing for sleep. Having harsh or over-lit spaces means that your body will wake up and can disrupt your sleeping patterns. Give your body the full chance to shut down for the night by using dimmers, down lights and bedside table lamps. This soft lighting will prepare your body for sleep and make the room look appealing to sleep in.
Noise Reduction
A good night’s sleep won’t happen unless you are in a quiet space. To ensure this happens, hang heavy curtains that will reduce noise. Make sure your door shuts properly and you are able to turn off any electrical products that may hum or have standby lights on them. Removing screens and monitors from your bedroom space will switch your mind off and create a noise-free zone. TVs and computers in particular cause sleepless nights for many insomniacs. Remove them altogether so you aren’t tempted to log on and wake up.
Storage
Sounds silly, but a cluttered space can cause stress to some people when they’re trying to sleep. Clearing away any messy things that you own will help you switch off and stop worrying, and make the space more inviting to sleep in. Using attractive storage containers such as weave baskets or built-in wardrobes will make you want to spend time in your bedroom and help pause the worry in your head.
Finishing Touches
Simple finishing touches, such as cheap bedding and curtains, will make the room feel complete. If you’ve gone for neutral walls, add a splash of colour with your bedding or curtains to make the room feel welcoming. If you’ve gone for bold walls, then simple, pared-down curtains and bedding will also finish the room off nicely. These calming, tranquil features will make your room all the more inviting and make you feel like you have control over the space.
